Top three reasons I don’t live in Visalia anymore

1.  It’s HOT

2.  It’s Africa Hot

3.  Did I mention it’s Hella Hot?

This weekend Ron, Zac and I passed through Visalia on the way to a wedding in Livermore.  My grandma fell and broke her hip last week, so we thought we could check in on her, spend Saturday with family and then drive up to the wedding.

Saturday we ended up playing Golf with my Mom and Dad and OMG … 105 degrees is WAY hot.  I had to quit and not play the last three holes because I was almost sick from the heat.

It reminded me of when I was 16 years old and still living in Visalia.  It is a fact that I have NEVER done well in major heat. Maybe it had to do with the fact that when my Mom was pregnant with me she would sit on blocks of ice to cool down when it was hot?  Who knows.

My Mom didn’t believe me until one day when I was practicing with the marching band in high school and called her to say I didn’t feel good.  She sent me back out there and they ended up peeling me off the pavement about a half hour later.  Of course my first car had no ac, so my Dad decided to help me out by putting an oscillating fan in it … bolted to the center console … Lindaloohoo, I bet you never had your own oscillating fan in the car.  I’d be driving down the road with my hair curling/frizzing up and sticking to my face … just waiting for the fan to come back to me.  THAT is okie-class.

Anyway … we went to Ron’s cousin’s wedding in Livermore at the Martinelli Center and had it not been scalding outside, I would have to say it was one of the nicest ceremonies I’ve seen.  It was outside (yes … outside) at 4 pm (only 108 degrees) looking over the vineyard and Ron’s Uncle Frank performed the wedding.  I just wish I hadn’t been wiping the sweat off my brow so much. They did a photo booth thingie and that was fun … too bad we didn’t know about it before we were all sweaty messes … that should have been my FIRST stop before I wilted - haha.

At 9 pm it started to cool off … just in time for us to get in the car and drive back to Visalia.  We rolled in about midnight, slept a few hours and finished out drive home only to find out that it’s ALMOST as hot here too.  Maybe it’s time for the big trees to come out of our back yard and put a pool in … or maybe I can save the money (and mess) and crash the neighbors pool instead.  Might be a quicker payout on that ;-)

So … what did you do this weekend to try to stay cool?

I’m so glad to be back in California today. It was HOT and HUMID in Chicago and we attended a huge outdoor family reunion on Saturday. Luckily, they had water games for the kiddos and the grownups just drank beer to try to stay cool. :-)

Your “great grandma” fell?? You better hope she never reads this. Lol To stay cool this weekend we had a friendly, ok maybe not so friendly, game of pool volleyball with the family. Had a great time! Miss you guys already.

hahah … good catch … what I meant was … my awesome grandma ;-)

Yeah … non-friendly game of volleyball and kids crawling all over him left Uncle Ron very sore the next day too. He could hardly move his shoulder when we got home. I said … why didn’t you tell them to stop and he said, because I don’t get to play with them THAT often.

Thanks again for having us over. We had a blast hanging out with you guys.

    kristy,
my first car didn’t have a/c either and an oscillating fan would have been a luxury. and a dad who would think to install it :-). it was a green maverick that was a gazillion years old and didn’t have reverse or first gear. i had to push it out of my parking space every morning.
oh and also, the shift pedal used to get stuck, so i had to break out the monkey toes to grip it and pull it back out every time i shifted.
    pure class right here, baby.
you are welcome to come use our communitly pool ANY time sistah! they let me in, so i’m sure you’d be ok.

LilSis - we too had water games with family on Sat night … so much so that Ron could hardly lift his arms the next day - haha

Lindaloohoo … Zac and I would love to crash your pool this summer - between the two of us, we’ll surely get kicked out. I think your first car made mine look like it was good - haha. It was a Mazda RX2 (their first rotary engine) and it was BRIGHT ASS YELLOW. Bees followed me everywhere, but I didn’t have to push it out of parking spaces … and since I don’t have monkey toes … then I’m glad it was automatic.

I would DIE in that kind of heat. If it gets above 85 here in Oregon I am too hot!

Okay so I dont know about you Kristy, but I had sweat dripping from my butt down my legs the whole reception. I am so glad to be home with a/c.

lindaloohootoo: okay I am totally having flashbacks of my first car reading about yours. My first car was a Chrysler Lebaron that originally belonged to my grandmother. It had no reverse, no a/c, the drivers side window would go down but I had to pull it back up (the automatic up didnt work), the radio got only one mariachi station because the antena was broken (I am mexican so it kinda works) and it screeched for the first mile if it was cold in the morning. When it died I got to share a minivan with my mom. Needless to say I was not the coolest kid in high school.
