Best Buy Shoppers Beware

I am so far behind this holiday season with just about everything and am trying very hard to dig out.  Yes I still have shopping to do, so in an effort to make a dent on my monster list  I went to get Hubby his last Christmas gift at Best Buy.  I went into the store and just as I walked in my “overloaded brain”  kicked in and I was mentally reminded of a  rumor that I had heard of pertaining to a stupid restocking fee that they charge on electronics.  Well low and behold it is no rumor it is fact that on many items in the store if you return or exchange they charge a 15% restocking fee.  Once that was confirmed I walked out the door and will give my business to circuit city where they don’t charge and the prices very competitive.  Best Buy you need to change your ways as that fee is ridiculous and in this economy you need all the business you can get.

The problem with giving your business to Circuit City instead is that they are in the midst of bankruptcy and closing stores all over the country so where is the guarantee that any item purchased under a warranty would be covered for the full time?

Huh … I’ve never had that problem … then again … I have only returned a few things and at first they gave me crap about taking it back, but then I raised my voice and must have scared them … they caved and gave me my money back.

Cathy I agree 15% restocking fee is ridiculous! Pushy and loud is good in these circumstances Kristy!
Vanessa–I understand your caution but your warranty on a product is normally from the manufacturer not the store so I think you are okay buying a name brand product at Circuit City. But I certainly wouldn’t buy an extended warranty from Circuit City. That would just be silly–that they might not be around to honor. Personally, I never buy the extended warranties on anything so I’d feel okay shopping at CC. As an aside on a related but totally different topic: you are more at risk buying gift cards from stores because if a store goes into Chapter 11 the gift cards are worthless.

I am with you Cathy. It’s ridiculous. I won’t be spending my money there.

Yeah, my husband and I didn’t show at Best Buy this season for that exact reason. I kinda get that they are trying to discourage folks from buying things for “events” and then returning for refund but still, there has to be a better way.

Yeah it’s crazy but Circuit City is in bankruptcy so don’t buy a warranty. The whole thing is crazy plus they charge that California recycling fee and geez it all adds up!
