Put y’er boots on ’cause it’s time for a HoDown

Potato Ho Down that is :-D

Thanks to all of you who participated this month. The ladies of Where’s My Damn Answer are super proud to be hosting the December Potato Ho Down. This event has been fun and such a GREAT way to meet new bloggers. We’ve only been around these parts since April and I must say, I’m VERY glad I stumbled upon Noble Pig (and subsequently Evil Chef Mom) when I did.

So let’s get on with the show … be sure to click the links to the original dishes for the complete recipe. We have some really good ones to share this month.

First off I have to publish one that was entered awhile ago from our very own Lindaloohoo. You see we got it in late for October and then somehow it didn’t make it on the November Ho Down and seriously … I LOVE that she did it cause she’s always telling us that she’s SO not a foodie. You have to read her entry on it to fully appreciate the effort - you will chuckle … at least “I” did.

The original post can be found here: Simba Ann’s Baked Onion Potato

I LOVE the idea of onion, butter, potato, cheese and sour cream … Linda when are coming over to you making me one?

Our next blogger is Elra from Elra’s Cooking
Elra didn’t give us a HO NAME but we won’t hold it against her THIS time.
She calls her dish - BAECKAOFFA : Potees Boulangeres A L’Alsacienne

BAECKAOFFA or BACKÖEFE is a potato-meat layer dish, traditionally baked in an earthenware specialty from Alsace, France. Okay … who doesn’t love meat and potatoes together. Seriously, even if I can’t pronounce it … yum.

Our next blogger is Choosy Beggar Tina from Choose Beggars
Choosy Beggar also didn’t give us a HO NAME but we won’t hold it against her THIS time.
She calls her dish Batat Bil Zaytoun - Potato and Olive Salad

This is a Moroccan potato salad made with waxy baby potatoes, briny green olives, a healthy dose of garlic, and some of those sultry Moroccan spices. Batata Bil Zaytoun translates to “potatoes with olives”, which is a fabulous pairing if ever there was one. I must say that Choosy Beggar Tina has FABULOUS photos on her site that will make you want to try this dish. Go check them out for yourself.

Our next blogger is Julia (aka Trixie Emily - yes Julia - it IS for REAL)
from Grow. Cook. Eat.
Trixie Emily’s Dish for December is Baby Potato Skins with Truffles and Talleggio Cheese

Daniel Boulud serves cold, boiled new potatoes with caviar which was the inspiration for this dish. She maintains the festiveness with truffle slices but instead creates a warm hors d’oeuvre that can be made in advance. It sounds perfect for holiday entertaining.

*****

Our next blogger is Christine from Kits Chow
Christine also didn’t give us a HO NAME but we won’t hold it against her THIS time … wait … maybe we should. She’s the THIRD who omitted that part.
:: hands on hips ::
Oh well … Christine’s dish is called Tah Cheen V2

Tah Cheen is a Persian dish with chicken and rice. Christine put her spin on the traditional Iranian dish and added the potatoes. This sounds really interesting and I’d like to try it one night. Seems like there are some GREAT flavor combinations in this dish.

Our next blogger is another of the WMDA bloggers, Cathy (yes - we are OVER-ACHIEVERS - thanks for noticing ;-))
Cathy’s Ho Name is Maxine Denise.
Maxine Denise’s dish for December is Cheddar Chipotle Sweet Mashed Potatoes

The name mostly says it all … cheddar cheese, chipotle seasoning, sweet potatoes … oh my! I can tell you that these were really yummy. Cathy brought us over a little “to go” tub filled with them and they certainly didn’t last long. I liked that they didn’t taste too sweet and I think the chipotle seasoning was the kicker it needed.

*****

Our next blogger is Donalyn (also known as Riley Marie) from DLYN
Riley Marie’s dish is called Potato Pull-Apart Cinnamon Bread

She says that this potato pull-apart cinnamon bread is rich, easy and incredible - a nice potato-ey addition to your Christmas breakfast. It looks FABULOUS Donalyn … mind if I come to your house Christmas morning to pick up a pan? ;-)

*****

Our next blogger is TS and JS (aka by her HO name - Sherli Hon Dory) from Eating Club Vancouver
Sherli Hon Dory’s dish is called Moroccan Chicken Tagine
A dish that’s more than the sum of it’s delicious parts. The best part? The potato wedges that absorbed all the savory, herbacious, tangy, briny and chidken-y goodness.

*****

Our Next blogger is Mrs. L (aka known by her HO name - Trixie Belle) from Pages, Pucks and Pantry
Trixie Belle’s Dish is this month is Potato Skins with Bacon and Cheese
This dish doesn’t really need much explanation. I love the simplicity of it and I think it’d go over perfectly in my home :D

*****

Our next blogger hardly needs an introduction since she and Krysta came up with this awesome monthly event :D It’s Cathy (aka known by her HO name as Sparky Marie) from Noble Pig - YAY!
Sparky Marie’s dish is Ugly but Delicious Bourbon-Walnut Sweet Potato Mash.
“All Potato Ho’s love cheap bourbon, so why not add them to your Potato Dish? These will knock your fishnet stocking right off!” — You’re right Cathy … not all food photographs well, but I’d still be excited to dip into this dish.
