Gary and I decided to drop by Crave Cupcakes, located in Uptown Park, yesterday to take the edge off from my motorcycle spill. A cupcake can make ANYBODY feel better about ANYTHING…trust me, I am the Cake Diva, remember?
The shop itself is clean and bright - LOVE all the open space - kind of a mix between modern and retro. The shop was designed by award winning design group avroKO. Clean lines and simple with beautiful crisp color. In the displays, they have cleverly placed a single cupcake under glass across the top…some of the flavors that popped out to me were Nutella (topped with a beautiful little hazelnut) and the Cranberry Orange.
Mr. G.’s fave thing in the world is Key Lime Pie, so he opted to order the Key Lime Cupcake and I decided to go with my favorite, Red Velvet. Each cupcake cost $3.25 - which seems to be the going rate for “gourmet” cupcakes - however they seemed to be much smaller than say a Sprinkles cupcake…
The young girl delivered them to us in this cute little box
I love the fact that they are able to box just two, like this…very cool
The Key Lime Cupcake was a soft and moist vanilla based cake. The frosting was lovely with a burst of tartness from the lime and a really nice treat to have the finely crushed graham cracker sprinkled on the top. I would DEFINITELY order this again.
The Red Velvet was a bit of a disappointment for a couple of reasons - number one, it wasn’t RED…it was more like a devils food cake and number two, it didn’t taste of anything…a Red Velvet should taste of chocolate. The chocolate taste in this cake was virtually nonexistent. I have to say though, on a positive note, that the cake itself was wonderfully moist - just flavorless. The saving grace was the cream cheese frosting - perfect blend of sweet and creaminess from the cream cheese, giving the cupcake some substance.
Plus they had cute little fondant cutout on top that was embossed with a stand up mixer - too cute and ties in the theme of the place!
All in all, I would definitely recommend Crave to anyone wanting a delicious, moist quick cupcake fix!!! They also do gift packs.

They sure look good - I confess to be a Sprinkles fan they are a tough one to compete against unless of course they are your cupcakes then there is no competition!!!
Thanks for the suggestion!!
xo
I wish I could go there. How yummy!
The key lime one sounds yummy but the red velvet - I’m sorry after sampling your red velvet … I will forever be biased.
I am a sucker for cupcakes!!!!

i made cathy over at noble pig’s cupcake recipe for a fourth of july party.
they didn’t come out as pretty as hers and i couldn’t find poprocks so i used the special edition red white & blue circus cookies and they didn’t have fresh fruit on them or yummy whipped cream frosting since i used cream cheese frosting, so really i don’t know why i even pretend to think i used cathy over at noble pig’s recipe, cause they came from a box but this is a really cool run on sentence so, jody, thanks for giving me the opportunity to put it into cyberspace forever.
or put another way, these cupcakes look better than mine.
Leeeeennnddaaaa … where’s the photo?
Yeah…we want PHOTOS…damn it!!!
Kristy - ‘presh on the kind words about my red velvet….yes, prolly my most popular flavor…and my fave too!!!
Not much for originality, you failed to mention that everything is identical to Sprinkles cupcakes of Beverly Hills. One of the folks involved in Crave was on the Board of Sprinkles at one time and has stolen their clean, trendy design along with their cupcake’s style and form, they then opened their own place called Crave (stole the name from Calgary, Canada - “Crave Cookies and Cupcakes”). I thought the cupcakes were dreadful and tasted nothing of gourmet. Not too mention, the staff is not the friendliest group and I would definitely not recommend this place to people with children (not family friendly).
wow.
sounds like someone ::up there:: needs to EAT a cupcake, any ole cupcake, and just chill.
i DO have a photo of my plate-o-cupcakes, but i’m lazy. so it may be winter before i get around to posting it.
so y’all can laugh at me. haha. look at what that poor, cooking challenged woman did to those cupcakes. yeah, i’m in a hurry to hear THAT.
Thanks for stopping by to check out our blog - I will be sure to check out the other cupcake places in Houston…
Cakes are my game and I ALWAYS like to see what the competition is doing…
Please stop back by…

I love Crave cupcakes. My favorite is the Dark Chocolate. My next is the Red Velvet with sweet cream cheese icing. I have tried many of their other flavors Candy Bar, Banana, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, Hummingbird, Nutella, Strawberry, Chocolate Espresso, chocolate on Vanilla, Vanilla on Chocolate and Key Lime. Out of all the ones I have tried keylime was my least favorite and killed my cravings for their cupcakes.
I actually tried the red velvet cupcake on my first visit, and was not a fan. Like you said, the red velvet tasted nothing like red velvet cake. However, I also tried the peanut butter chocolate cupcake and… IT WAS TO DIE FOR! It definetely made up for the red velvet bomb.
